More Love with Feng Shui
Our Featured Topic: Feng Shui & Sacred Sace
I had finally decided that if I was truly serious about finding my beloved, it was time to be courageous enough to admit that to other people. I was at a Jin Shin Jyutsu training in Boulder, CO. It was a perfect place to practice my new intention to be honest and open. In conversation with one of my classmates, I told her that I was looking for love.
She promptly began talking to me about Feng Shui and its impact on attracting love. I wasn’t familiar with Feng Shui, but the idea that physical objects and space either encourage or trap energy made sense to me.
She told me that I should move my bed out from the wall so my future partner could get to his side of the bed. She talked about pairing up objects like candles and getting rid of solitary items or images.
I was intrigued, so I purchased the book Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui, by Karen Kingston. She writes, “…By changing your home, you also change the possibilities in your own life. Removing the obstacles to the harmonious flow of energy in your living environment creates more harmony in your life and the space for wonderful new opportunities to come to you.”
At the time, my bed was a futon mattress on a piece of plywood on top of five cinder blocks. I was able to store a dozen or so boxes of items underneath the bed and thought it was a great idea. One of the first Feng Shui clearing tasks I undertook was to clear out all of the stuff under my bed.
I had boxes of things dating back to elementary school. I found my Campfire Girl beads, stuffed animals, Dr. Seuss books. There were tons of photographs, letters, diaries. Lots of stuff I hadn’t paid any attention to in years. Eventually, the dozen boxes turned into one that I stored in the closet. As I let go of old things, I felt lighter, more energized and hopeful regarding my life and my future love.
Karen Kingston writes about a frequent occurrence in her consultations with educated people having difficulty finding a love partner. “…I find that in the relationships corner of the house or the relationships corner of a much-used room in the house, there is a large bookcase stuffed full of old books…because in actual fact their primary relationship is with their books! By moving the bookcase or at least clearing some space in the bookshelves, it creates room for new interests and relationships in their lives.”
I can’t say I met my beloved immediately after I cleared my clutter, but it was an important step in my process. In addition to the material stuff, I also had to let go of my own interfering beliefs, fears and habits. I met my husband three years later.
A final quote from Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui says, “Love and fear cannot exist in the same space, so everything you are holding onto through fear is blocking you having more love in your life; clearing it allows more love to start pouring in.”
